Expats Eye Pope’s Tax Woes as Opportunity to Ditch Worldwide Tax
"'What’s good enough for the pope should be good enough for the [expatriate] community,' Marylouise Serrato of American Citizens Abroad told Tax Notes August 7."
"Some proponents are still eyeing the prospect of another big bill using the budget reconciliation process — Republicans have spoken of a second or third such bill in the near future. In an August 5 release, American Citizens Abroad said the OBBBA left some Republican tax priorities unresolved and noted that President Trump pledged during his presidential campaign to intervene on behalf of U.S. expatriates."
"A bipartisan tax bill would be ideal because residency-based taxation has bipartisan support, according to Serrato. 'But who knows? We’re going to be working on all of them,' she said."
