American Citizens Abroad (ACA) Presents Benjamin Franklin Award to Congressman Darin LaHood.

On February 26, 2025, American Citizens Abroad, Inc. (ACA) and ACA Global Foundation (ACAGF) management, Charles Bruce ACAGF Chairman and Marylouise Serrato ACA Executive Director, presented Congressman Darin LaHood with the ACA Benjamin Franklin Award.  The Benjamin Franklin Award recognizes a member of Congress who, understanding the valuable role played by United States citizens living abroad in building a stronger America, have rendered extraordinary service to this community.

Congressman LaHood introduced legislation into 118th Congress that would alleviate the tax and compliance problems for the nearly 5 million U.S. citizens living and working overseas.  If passed into law, Congressman LaHood’s Residence Based Taxation for Americans Abroad Act would tax U.S. citizens the way most industrialized nations tax their citizens, based on where income is earned and not on nationality.  It will help advance U.S. economic interests in terms of job creation and increase exports.  Simply put it is good tax policy.

ACA congratulates Congressman LaHood and his staff for their leadership on tax reform on behalf of U.S. citizens overseas and ACA looks forward to working closely with his staff as refinements are made to the legislation and revenue estimates are developed.  ACA has been instrumental in providing research and development work on Residence based taxation.  ACA’s work has been presented to offices in both the House and the Senate and is widely referenced in Congress.
