HR82 the Social Security Fairness Act calling for the Repeal of WEP can be brought to the house floor for vote!

Thank you ACA members and supporters who participated in our write-in campaign to get the signatures needed for a discharge petition for HR82. HR82 is the Social Security Fairness Act that calls for the repeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). The WEP potentially reduces U.S. Social Security benefits if individuals are also receiving a foreign pension. This can have devastating effects for U.S. retirees living abroad. The discharge petition now allows a member of Congress to call for a vote on HR82 which we believe one of the two co-sponsors of the bill, Representative Graves and Representative Spanberger, will do when the House is back in session in November. There is a seven day waiting period after the filing for the discharge petition prior to calling for a vote, so this cannot be done before the end of September but we are confident that this will happen in November.

ACA will be following up with offices of the Representatives who signed the discharge petition and thanking them for their support of this legislation.
