HR82 the Social Security Fairness Act has attained the 292 votes needed for it to pass to the US House of Representatives for a floor vote. This bill would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP).

Congressman Rodney Davis (R-IL) filed a motion on July 20th with the House of Representatives Clerk to place the legislation on the Consensus Calendar after it secured the 292 co-sponsors necessary. The Social Security Fairness Act would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset portions of the Social Security Act which unfairly reduces Social Security benefits for public service sector employees as well as US citizens living and working overseas.

Next steps are for US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to place the legislation on the Consensus Calendar and bring the bill up for vote. If Speaker Pelosi does not place the legislation on the Consensus Calendar within 25 days with the 292 co-sponsors and it's not reported by the committee of jurisdiction it will automatically be placed on the calendar and will be pushed to the floor for a full House vote.
