ACA’s management is comprised of US citizens who live and work abroad or have lived and worked abroad.  ACA management also includes individuals with professional and international experience and expertise.  The ACA management team bring with them a wealth of personal and professional knowledge from a variety of fields. 

ACA is headquartered in Washington, DC giving us direct 24/7 access to Capitol Hill and allowing us to create partnerships with stakeholders and like-minded organizations. ACA monitors legislation, engages in dialogue with the Legislative, Administrative and Judicial branches of the US government. ACA gathers knowledge by consulting with professional experts in relevant fields, canvasing our members directly and the community through social media.  ACA monitors the US and international media outlets, stakeholder organizations and consults published research for information.  ACA also fields research projects via our sister organization ACA Global Foundation (ACAGF.)  ACA encourages members to write or provide us with their testimonials, on the issues affecting them and engages in Social Media to keep informed on what is happening in the community.

ACA has informal Country Chapters that serve to informally bring together Americans living overseas who want to share their experiences, issues and concerns and to make these issues known to ACA for policy formulation purposes.  Chapters hold informal “get-together” meetings and networking events.  ACA's sister-organization, ACA Global Foundation (ACAGF) hosts Town Hall Evenings where practical information on topics of interest to the community are presented. ACA Advisory Committee. The ACA Advisory Committee serves to review and evaluate the organization’s progress, its work and initiatives, and advise on policies that will grow the organization.  ACA Advisory Committee members are individuals that have established themselves as thought leaders and professionals in areas related to issues concerning the overseas American community and stand out for their contribution to the international community. For more information on the ACA Advisory Committee please contact: info@americansabroad.org.

Is my membership fee tax deductible? 

ACA, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization. Memberships paid to ACA, Inc. are not tax deductible. Donations to ACA Global Foundation (ACAGF), a 501(c)(3) organization, however, are tax-deductible. 

Is my membership information or personal information shared with any third party, government or otherwise? 

No. Neither ACA, Inc. nor ACA Global Foundation are required to divulge personal membership or donor information to the US government or any third party. Your personal information remains confidential to ACA, Inc. and ACA Global Foundation. Any sharing of personal information, testimonials, etc. is done only under the member's express consent (e.g., if you want us to speak with your Representative in Congress or provide us with a story or testimonial). See our Privacy Policy here.

Why are there two different organizations and what does each do? 

ACA, Inc. is officially allowed to advocate on behalf of its members in front of Congress, the Executive branch and elsewhere, in order to be more effective in working with the US Government, to fulfill the goals which the original organization, American Citizens Abroad, established when it was founded in 1978.  ACA, Inc. can meet and otherwise communicate with and educate legislators and other government officials on issues affecting Americans overseas.  Membership fees are not tax-deductible.  The organization cannot endorse or otherwise work on behalf of candidates.

ACA Global Foundation (ACAGF) works to promote the well-being of Americans abroad, identify issues and actions that affect this segment of American citizenry, develop information and research on issues and actions, provide information and research on Americans abroad to the legislative, administrative and judicial branches of the US government and, to disseminate such information to the media and other communication channels. ACA Global Foundation cannot lobby and cannot endorse political candidates. Donations to ACA Global Foundation are tax-deductible. 

Why are ACA Inc. and ACA Global Foundation non-profit and non-partisan? 

ACA, Inc. and ACA Global Foundation, under the terms of their organizational documents and applicable law, are non-profit and non-partisan organizations. This is important as neither organization supports a political party or individual candidates and is not influenced by any political party platforms.  Through these organizations, ACA is able to raise funds and donations to support of our work. The organization, in one of its forms, is able to cooperate with other organizations on a range of educational and other projects. Its directors are also able to serve on advisory committees, working groups and the like, so as to more effectively provide input on issues of concern to Americans abroad.
