The U.S. House of Representatives passes the SAVE Act which will require in-person proof of citizenship to register to vote.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act, H.R. 22/S. 128). The bill will now go to the Senate for vote. ACA, along with other organizations wrote outlining our concerns for how the bill will disenfranchise U.S. citizens overseas. The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) ensures that US citizens overseas can register and vote using absentee ballots. Changes to that system puts at risk voter rights for U.S. citizens living outside of the United States. ACA will continue to work with our partners to preserve U.S. citizens voting rights.
