ACA congratulates Congresswoman Titus and Congresswoman Salazar, Co-Chairs on the Americans Abroad Caucus, on their re-elections to Congress

November 16, 2022

In a letter to both Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV) and Congresswoman Elivra Salazar (R-FL), ACA congratulates the Representatives on their re-election to the 118th Congress. Both Representatives are Co-Chairs of the  Americans Abroad Caucus (hyperlink) with Congresswoman Titus representing the Democratics and Congresswoman Salazar representing the Republicans.

The Americans Abroad Caucus, and individual members of the Caucus, have been instrumental in raising issues and supporting US citizens living and working overseas on a broad range of topics; voting access, COVID vaccination access, citizenship, foriegn financial access and taxation.

'The Americans Abroad Caucus is important for US citizens overseas in particular the 4 million non-military citizens many of whom face serious limitations on foreign financial access and tax compliance issues due to the current US tax policy as well as other problems related to US regulations and legislation,' said Marylouise Serrato, ACA Executive Director.

The Americans Abroad Caucus was created in 2007 under the leadership of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) who unfortunately will be leaving the 117th Congress at the end of 2022.  Representative Maloney has served as the Democratic Co-chair since the inception of the Caucus and only recently began sharing the position with Congresswoman Titus. The Caucus began with only six members but has grown over the years and currently has 35 members (117th Congress).

'ACA has worked with the Americans Abroad Caucus since its creation and we look forward to our continued relationship with them in the new Congress. Members are hearing about the issues from their overseas constituents evidenced by the growth in the size of the Caucus. This is all helping to bring the problems reported by US citizens overseas into the mainstream,' said Jonathan Lachowitz, ACA Chairman.
