ACA submits official comments on proposed rule changes concerning the Affidavit of Support (Form I-864)

ACA recently learned of proposed rule changes concerning the Affidavit of Support (Form I-864) by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) under DHS Docket No. USCIS-2019-0023 which would require additional documentation for US sponsors of intended family-member immigrants.  Almost all US sponsors of these individuals have to file the Affidavit of Support in conjunction with filing the Petition for Alien Relative (Form 1-30).  The proposed rule would change and now require: submission of credit scores and credit reports, submission of certified copies of transcripts of last three years of US income tax returns (instead of current one year requirement) and submission of bank account information.

ACA has written to the Office of Policy and Strategy at USCIS and submitted official comments for the record as required during the 30-day commentary period, highlighting our concerns with regard to these new proposed regulations.  ACA will also be following up directly with staff at USCIS on our submission and our concerns.  See ACA’s submission here.
